Abstract
This work presents the main aspects and criteria adopted by the Brazilian independent system operator (ISO) for power system restoration due to total or partial collapses. Guidelines to avoid or minimize the occurrence of drawbacks during the restoring process are also outlined. It presents a summary of the recommendations and procedures. To exemplify the overall procedures, the restoration in the Rio de Janeiro area is presented including a possible alternative in case of a blackout in this area.
