Abstract :
This paper presents a simple method for calculating the reflectivity of a multilayer dielectric mirror containing one or more magnetic layers, assuming that the incident optical wave is polarized in the plane of incidence, and that the layer is magnetized normal to the plane of incidence. The reflectivity for oppositely directed waves is non-reciprocal, and may be employed to bias a ring laser rate sensor away from the well known zero-rate dead band.
