Abstract :
Bit-error rate performance and sensitivity penalty for 2.5 Gb/s AMI-coded optical CPFSK in a delay demodulation receiver are obtained. It has been found that an optimum modulation index of 0.9 yields a theoretical system penalty of 2 dB at a bit-error rate of 10/sup -9/ using a DFB laser with nonflat FM response and normalized laser linewidth /spl Delta//spl nu/T=4/spl times/10/sup -4/.<>
