Abstract
A model to analyse the effects of clipping for a Gaussian signal with an arbitrary spectrum is presented. The model provides a complete description of the signal and noise spectrum. The method is applied to an asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) system using discrete multitone (DMT) modulation. Calculations exhibit a 5dB improvement in the SNR compared to an approximate analysis.
