Abstract :
The effect of cable-in-conduit geometry on stability and the quench characteristics of force-cooled superconductors is studied by numerical analysis. The transient stability model and its extension for quench calculations, developed last year at SIN, are modified using a simplified approach. The analysis is applied to one of the matrix conductors evaluated during the conceptual design phase of the Swiss LCT coil. Results show that the higher heat transfer coefficient affects only the stability margin, and that the higher frictional losses can affect stability and the quench characteristics.
