Abstract :
A comparison is drawn between the existing practice of reclosing following fault conditions on electric power transmission lines and proposed reclosing on superconducting systems. It has been found that on power lines there is a high probability of any particular fault being of a transient nature. A reclosure attempt is likely to be successful and the operation of the system suffers little disturbance. The conditions for applying reclosing principles to large superconducting systems are discussed. Tests in which reclosing is attempted on a small superconducting coil are described.
