Abstract :
Transmission characteristics for a 400 Mbit/s signal over a 104 km single-mode fibre are reported. A DFB laser diode is restricted to a single longitudinal mode at 1.53 ¿m. No degradation is observed in the error-rate performance at a low loss and a finite dispersion wavelength.
