Abstract :
The sources of error in the measurement of magnetic fields with Hall plates are discussed and some precautions to be taken to achieve the highest accuracy are described. This review includes a survey of the literature on these effects and the results of some additional investigations are presented. The general purpose measuring facility at Daresbury Laboratory is described with particular emphasis on the latest improvements resulting in a highly reliable and completely automated system that has been employed in the testing of the magnets for the new Synchrotron Radiation source.
