Abstract
The concept of the Swiss LCT Coil is based on a forced flow cooled conductor 18.5 × 18.5 mm2. The coil is wound in 11 double pancakes with a total of 462 turns. It is vacuum-pressure impregnated with epoxy resin and cured as a monolithic block in the coil case. The case is made of stainless steel AISI 316L/316LN. The components of the case are screwed and pinned together. The forced cooling of the coil does not require a vacuum or pressure-tight case design. Two-dimensional stress analysis supports the present design of coil and case. Three dimensional finite element analysis is well advanced.
