Abstract :
This paper is primarily concerned with mechanical stress analysis for big size nuclear fusion experimental machines of Tokamak type. While analytical method has been already established for in-plane electromagnetic force acting on TF coils, no analytical method has been obtained regarding out-of-plane electromagnetic force produced by poloidal field. This paper describes analytical method of calculating moment by the poloidal field, as well as mechanical stress produced by the moment in toroidal field coils (TF coil). This method is applied to stress analysis of large TF coils for Tokamak fusion experimental reactor, and the effects of the magnetic field intensity, size and shape of the coils, and supporting structure on the mechanical stress are studied.
