Abstract
The Swiss LCT-coil will be built up by a forced flow cooled hollow NbTi super conductor. The nominal current is 13´000 A creating a peak field in the coil of 8.2 T. The conductor consists of a centre cooling tube around which 480 NbTi filamentary wires (0.46 mm φ) and several copper wires are cabled in three steps and rolled to a 18×18mm cross-section. For reduction of the pulsed field losses the first step cables are surrounded with CuNi foils. By filling the cabled conductor with a special solder mixture, the conductor obtains the necessary mechanical strength. Results of the evaluation program are presented.
