Abstract :
130 flat superconducting pancake coils were manufactured for the Pion Therapy Facility of SIN. The windings made from a low-loss cable of NbTi filamentary wires are surrounded by a cooling tube and a copper mesh for better heat transfer. They are embedded in a glass-epoxy plate and impregnated with a special epoxy resin. The very short training and successful commissioning of the two ring magnets show the validity and effectiveness of the design.
