Abstract
Specimens of roller quenched amorphous ribbon of compositions Fe40 Ni38 Mo4 B18 , Fe80 B20 and Fe40 Ni40 B20 were wound into insulated toroids and after annealing were subjected to step dB/dt magnetization reversals from a remanent induction to saturation in the opposite direction. The pulse magnetization characteristics and resultant losses were compared with those obtained from some conventional polycrystalline alloys typified by Ni50 Fe50 (square loop) and Ni77 Fe14 Mo4 Cu5 (high permeability) compositions. Measurements indicated that amorphous ribbons performed better than similar thicknesses of Ni50 Fe50 and were potentially useful in replacing Ni77 Fe14 MO4 Cu5 at high reversal rates.
