Abstract :
The stopband and the Bragg wavelength in a DFB laser were clearly observed by measuring longitudinal-mode characteristics just below the threshold current. It became clear that the first-order longitudinal-mode oscillation did not always occur. Coupling coefficients ¿ for the DFB laser were deduced to be 10 to 40 cm¿1 from the stopband width.
