Abstract :
In this letter, a procedure to design a miniaturized planar antenna of ultrawideband (UWB) performance is presented. The proposed method utilizes corrugated radiator and ground plane of elliptical shapes to design an omnidirectional antenna of compact size. The simulated and measured results show that using the proposed method results in a surface area reduction by more than 50% compared with the optimized noncorrugated structure, which is designed using the previously published procedure, while maintaining the other radiation characteristics of the antenna. The time domain response of the miniaturized antenna reveals a distortionless operation with more than 90% fidelity factor.
