Abstract
This paper presents a method of designing linear pulse slimming equalizers that permits tradeoffs between the amount of slimming and the enhancement of the background noise. A time window is selected according to the desired recording density. Let us say that the output pulse should have at least 99% of its energy concentrated inside of the selected time window. The equalizer is then designed to meet that specification with the minimum deterioration of a certain signal-to-noise measure.
