Abstract :
The magnetic recording depends critically on the integrity of the interface which consists of the thin magnetic film, the slider surface and the dynamic airbearing. An experimental technique is presented to show that it can be used to determine the threshold impact intensity to cause measurable wear on the thin metal film recording disk, the relationship between the impact wear and the readback signal, the slider flying dynamics, and to detect the impact transient elasto-plastic deformation and wear.
