Abstract :
The paper gives expressions for the losses in a tubular cylindrical conductor, under impulse surges, with the transient skin effect taken into account. Both the total losses and the losses at outer surface layer of the tubular conductor are considered. Expressions for a current surge in a form of dual-exponential impulse are presented. The formulae obtained are used for some illustrative computations of the thermal characteristics of the tubular conductors.
