Abstract
A large-scale perpendicular magnetic head was constructed from which field components were measured. A conformal mapping solution was found to be in good agreement with the measured field components. Thus, conformal mapping was used to generate boundary value fields to determine coefficients in field equations obtained using the Poisson integral and the method of successive approximations. The resulting equations are in good agreement with the data for (gap)/ (pole tip) ratios ≥ 0.4 but easier to use than conformal mapping. For example, the calculations shown were done with a Texas Instruments 59 programmable calculator.
