Abstract :
This contribution describes a method of linearizing saturable field problems by using an equivalent permeability function based partially on a limiting non-linear theory. The approach, when used with a numerically derived, optimal finite element mesh leads to significantly reduced computation times for a wide range of problems, and has the advantage that it can be readily applied to existing finite element codes. An example of the use of the proposed method is given by calculating the performance of a linear induction device utilizing a saturable steel plate as the moving member.
