Abstract :
By operating a cleaved-coupled-cavity (C3) laser in a spectrally bistable regime with large hysteresis we demonstrate a new kind of high-speed FSK transmitter. This scheme can tolerate large fluctuations in modulation signal amplitude and show a detection limited switching time of 1 ns, indicating the possibility of high-speed high-reliability FSK systems.
