  • Abstract
    Polarisation-preserving directional couplers have been fabricated with birefringent fibres that self align their axes within the coupling region. The polarisation characteristics have been measured with the reliable spectral-averaging technique, and broadband extinction ratios of ¿20 dB have been achieved, on average, in all ports.
