Abstract :
It is noted that one of the most critical components of a fiber-optic system is the connector, and that when choosing a connector and coupling for a particular application, the designer must consider fiber type, required optical performance, maintenance, and system cost. If an existing system is being modified or extended, compatibility with existing components must also be considered. The contact schemes, connector styles, terminations, and materials from which a designer must choose are outlined
