Abstract :
The temperature dependence of the electro-optic Kerr effect has been measured in a silica-cored monomode optical fibre. The Kerr constant was measured as 5.3×10¿16 mV¿2 at 23°C with a temperature coefficient of +0.56% per deg C over the range 23 to 88°C. This measurement has implications for optical-fibre temperature and electric field sensors.
