Abstract
The phase noise and spurious mode characteristics of a system comprising a mutually sustained microwave-optoelectronic oscillator pair are described. The two oscillators have different spectral purities and mode spacing and neither oscillates when they are decoupled. Only the mutually locked pair oscillates and exhibits low phase noise and highly suppressed spurious modes.
