Abstract :
A single-sided perpendicular floppy disk head with tunnel erase has been fabricated and tested on a double-layered floppy disk of Co-Cr and permalloy. Densities of up to 42 kFRI at -6 dB output were achieved with a low density head output of 13.8 μV (zero to peak) per mm of track width per turn per meter per second of velocity. An approximate two-dimensional mathematical model yielding equations for the flux density of the pole piece compares reasonably well with the experimental results.
