Abstract :
The magnetic field components for a ring head in the presence of an image plane were solved by a means of a conformal mapping. In the region between the head and the image plane, the vertical component of the field approaches a constant value equal to ±NI/2d. This behavior is reflected in the readback voltage for an isolated step transition in vertical magnetization. Using the isolated pulse, the readback voltage for a series of equally spaced transitions was obtained by linear superposition. Results are compared to those obtained for a ringhead and single layer media.
