Abstract
An asymptotic form is given for the Sommerfeld integral governing the electric surface field behaviour when a vertical electric dipole is located near the interface of a plane-earth model. It is shown that the expression assumes the accepted form for the case of high electric conductivities, while becoming the exact result when the earth refractive index is unity.
