Abstract :
The effects of mechanical disturbances on the performance of Rutherford-type and braided superconductors are presented. A set of simulated stability experiments on these two types of conductor has revealed that the Rutherford-type conductor is much less sensitive to mechanical disturbances than the braid, agreeing with the performance records of high-current density dipole magnets wound with these two types of conductors.
