Abstract
This study presents a new sub-picture compression algorithm with high coding efficiency. The proposed algorithm uses content-adaptive run-length coding technology to enhance the coding efficiency. Four run-length compression rules with content-adaptive lengths are used to compress the binary bit stream of each bit plane. A revertible lossless transform is used as the optional encoding process for preprocessing the content to fit the content feature with more 1 than 0. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm has much better performance than the current DVD sub-picture compression method
