    Gas turbines are low volume, high variety, high value products, and consequently their production is similarly to much of engineering manufacture which operates on a batch production basis. The article describes the experiences of Rolls Royce in the use of robots, and includes details of the ESPRIT III funded InterRob 6457 project.<>
