  • Abstract
    A general discussion of the form of the force equation for fast electromagnetic launchers, and of their energetics, is presented. It suggests that a class of launch devices whose total inductance decrease during the launch cycle has a number of attractive features, especially the potential for high electrical-to-mechanical energy conversion efficiency. Examples of specific launcher concepts in this class are given.
