Abstract
A three phase gas insulated power cable has been analysed. Phase currents are sinusoidal in a steady state and balanced. Three tubular, thin phase conductors are symmetrically arranged within a steel tube of any thickness. Field, currents and forces have been found by applying complex potentials in the air and solutions of the diffusion equation in the shell material. It may be of importance that forces calculated differ significantly from the forces calculated elsewhere where simplified models with filamentary phase conductors were used.
