Abstract
The heart of the new personal information appliance is an information access device. Within a few years, it will be used by millions of people. Eventually it will be used by almost everybody. The paper describes the properties of an information access device, and predicts how such a device will evolve, the services such a device will enable and how the authors and their associates are presently supporting the concept with a new IC. The integrated circuit described is optimized for broadband security applications and specifically the set-top terminal
