Abstract :
The fields of idealized heads and media are theoretically examined to obtain the symmetry properties relevant to playback signal prediction. Signals for different systems are theoretically compared and the conditions producing exact equivalence of all idealized systems are identified. Departure from these conditions is shown to produce a general non-equivalence of complementary single pole and ring head playback systems.
