Abstract
Foundations are laid for the development of new magnetostriction sensors and transducers, with emphasis on the torqued magnetic ribbon. The domain structure in the Striptor (TORqued magnetic STRIP - excited by electric core-currents) is compared with the straight ribbon and wire core structures. Rules are summarized for the excitation of various core configurations. The ΔE effect in magnetostriction materials has been derived as ΔE = (λr EMa /K)2/μo χr , where Ma is the magnetization corresponding to the bias Ha at the drive coil. Using the ΔE, an expression is obtained for the output of the sinusoidal excitation type magnetostriction line. A ΔG effect is predicted for electric core-currents (G: shear modulus). Applications for the Striptor are given.
