Abstract :
This paper gives a strategy to calculate the optimum origins of the poles in the multiple multipole method, which contains as a special case the charge method (method of images). The field, given finally as a linear combination of basis functions fiis built up one function after another. For each basis function one has to solve a nonlinear problem in two or three independent variables.
