Abstract
Three-dimensional electromagnetic fields near the end of a lapped stator core have been investigated in the simplest model which still takes adequate account of both the laminar structure and the effect of gaps between individual laminations in the same layer. An iterative method was used to solve the equations for about forty thousand complex degrees of freedom and a two-way Fourier analysis was incorporated to make the computation more efficient. The results, when compared with those from a homogeneous representation of the core, showed deeper flux penetration, especially near the gaps between laminations.
