Abstract :
The paper describes a method for calculating 3-dimensional nonlinear magnetic fields by the computer program PROFI. Particularly for highly utilized and for limit-rating machines an exact qualitative and quantitative knowledge of the field distribution is necessary. Therefore, everything having influence thereon, - such as the complex outline of the end region and the overhang windings - must be taken into account. In order to accomplish this problem, the magnetic fields were calculated at about 140,000 mesh points. The paper describes the input data required for the iterative solution of the nonlinear equation system followed by a short discussion of the final results.
