Investigating Stream of Consciousness in Houshang Golshiri’s Mirrors with Cover Doors

جريان سيال ذهن،روشي نسبتا جديد در داستان نويسي است كه نويسندگاني چون دورثي ريچارسون، ويرجينيا وولف وجيمز جويس، در آثار خود از آن بهره گرفته اند. ويژگي اين روش، ارائه جرياني از انديشه ها و تصاوير ذهني است كه اغلب فاقد يك پارچگي و ساختار مشخص هستند ؛طرح داستان، مرزهاي زمان و مكان متعارف را در مي نوردد و خواننده تنها از طريق واگويه هاي شخصيت ها، مي تواند به طور نسبي، به درك آن نايل آيد. اين شيوه در كشور ما از همان آغاز رمان نويسي به سبك نوين، در آثار نويسندگاني چون صادق هدايت، صادق چوبك و هوشنگ گلشيري مورد استقبال قرار گرفت. هوشنگ گلشيري در رمان آينه هاي دردار، براي به تصوير كشيدن روحيات پيچيده اشخاص داستان و براي رخنه به اعماق آن ها، از تكنيك جريان سيال ذهن و به خصوص از شيوه ي حديث نفس، مدد گرفته ؛ روشي كه مبتني بر تداعي آزاد معاني است.

Stream of consciousness is a relatively new technique in writing fiction which was first used by writers such Dorothy Richardson, Virginia Woolf, and James Joycein their works. The main feature of this technique is presenting a stream of thoughts and subjective images, often without a certain structure and coherence.The plot of the fiction transcends the boundaries of a normal setting—time and place—and the reader can get a relative understanding of the text only through the words spoken by characters.This style of writing was welcomed in our country from the very beginning of modern story writingby writers such as Sadegh Hedayat, Sadegh Chubak and Hooshang Golshiri.In Mirrors with Cover Doors, Houshang Golshirihas employed stream of consciousness and specifically soliloquy—a literary devicebased on the free association of meanings—to depict the complexities of the characters’ personalities in the story and to penetrate deep into their thought.
