مدل تصميم‌گيريشهودي چندوجهي، صفحۀ تصميم را ماتريسي مي‌داند از راه حل‌ها و ابعاد تصميم كه سياستگذاران و تصميم‌گيران در عرصۀ سياست خارجي از راهبردهاي متعدد تصميم‌گيري از جمله راهبردهاي بهينه (و نه هميشه بيشينه) در زمان تصميم‌گيري استفاده مي‌كنند. يك راهبرد تصميم، مجموعه‌اي از شيوه‌ها و رويه‌هاست كه تصميم‌گيرنده را درگير انتخاب ميان راه حل‌هاي متعدد كرده و همچنين قاعدۀ تصميم كه حكم مي‌كند چگونه نتايج انتخاب يادشده را در ايجاد تصميم واقعي به‌كار برد، به‌طوري كه سياستگذاران فرايندي دومرحله‌اي را به‌كار مي‌برند: بررسي مقدماتي ميان راه حل‌هاي در دسترس و انتخاب بهترين راه حل از ميان فهرست نتايج مرحلۀ اول با هدف كمينه كردن ريسك و بيشينه كردن سود. به همين دليل اين مدل تصميم‌گيري در عرصۀ سياست خارجي بهتر از ديگر مدل‌هاي رايج، تصميم‌سازي در زمينۀ سياست هسته‌اي جمهوري اسلامي ايران تا حصول برجام را تبيين مي‌كند.
