افراطگرايي و تروريسم سابقه ديرينه در جهان دارد. به خصوص در دوره معاصر در سراسر جهان اسلام فعاليت دارند (تاريخچه) ، با اين وصف تروريسم و افراطگرايي يكي از دغدغههاي ملتها و دولتها در دنيا تبديل شده است (مسئله) از اينرو با وجود نگرش ايران و امريكا در متون مختلف، بازخواني رويكرد «انقلاب اسلامي ايران» و «ايالات متحده» داراي ضرورت پژوهشي هست (پيشينه) كه سوالات مهمي را در خود جاي داده است، اين مقاله تنها در صدد پاسخ به سوال «جمهوري اسلامي ايران و ايالات متحده چه رويكردي را در قبال افراطگرايي دنبال ميكنند؟ در صورت تفاوت در نوع استراتژي هر يك چگونه ايفاي نقش ميكنند؟» است (سوال) در نگاه نخست به نظر ميرسد؛ هر دو كشور در صدد خشكاندن ريشه تروريسم هستند؛ درحاليكه چنين نيست. ايران استراتژي منسجم و بدون تضاد در تقابل با تكفير و تروريسم دارد، ايالات متحده در قبال افراطگرايي و تروريسم رويكرد واحد و يكساني نداشته (فرضيه) ارائه تصويري واقعبينانه از نقش هر يك و مقايسه مواضع از پديده «افراطيگري» و «تروريسم» و نتايج حاصل از آن مقصود مقاله است (هدف) كه نيل به آن در پرتو توصيف و تحليل صورت ميگيرد (روش) پيامد آن نشان ميدهد، جمهوري اسلامي سياست و رويكر روشني دارد؛ ولي سياستهاي اعلاني و اعمالي آمريكا متفاوت و متناقض بوده است (يافته).
