نقد كهن الگويي از انواع نقد اسطوره اي است كه بيش تر بر نظريات يونگ در مورد ناخودآگاه جمعي و صور ازلي تاكيد دارد. در نظر يونگ، كهن الگوها آن دسته از صور ازلي و نوعي اند كه در عمق ناخودآگاه جمعي انسان ها، به صورت بالقوه وجود دارند و خفته اند. اين صور كهن و اساطيري، مي توانند در هنر و ادبيات تجلي يابند. در حكايت «پادشاه و برهمنان» كليله و دمنه، كهن الگوهاي آنيماي مثبت و منفي و پير خردمند را به ترتيب، در چهره هاي ايراندخت، زن ديگر پادشاه و كارايدون حكيم مي توان ديد. كهن الگوهاي اعداد، مرگ و تولد دوباره و ماندالا هم در اين حكايت نمود يافته اند. با توجه به اين صور ازلي، مي توان به لايه هاي معنايي ديگري از متن دست يافت.
