نگاه به گذشته و آشنايي با احوال پيشينيان، كه موضوع بحث تاريخ بوده و با اغراض گوناگون طرح مي گردد، زمينه ساز تحقق مراتب متعددي از معرفت تاريخي و از جمله مرتبه اي است كه از آن به خود آگاهي تاريخي تعبير مي شود.خود آگاهي تاريخي از اركان زندگي انسان و لازمة حركت او به سمت آينده است . اين مرتبه از فهم تاريخي با توسل به هر ابزار معرفتي و هر شكل از تقرب به گذشته قابل حصول نبوده، بلكه در اين سير وجود، شرايطي الزامي است تا از آن طريق بتوان به نتيجه مناسب دست يافت. گفتار حاضر با مبنا قراردادن موضوع تاريخ و پرداخت اجمالي پيرامون دو مقوله معرفت تاريخي و خود آگاهي تاريخي ، به طرح اين سوال مي پردازد كه "اساسا مكان معماري به عنوان يك مستند تاريخي، واجد چه جايگاهي در حوزه معرفت تاريخي است و چگونه مي توان از آن به عنوان يك منبع معرفتي در جهت نيل به خودآگاهي تاريخي بهره مند گرديد؟ ".پاسخ به اين سوال از طريق تأمل در روش كلي كسب معرفت تاريخي و به مدد بهره گيري از روش استدلال منطقي جستجو مي گردد. اميد كه مقبول افتد

Looking into the past and a getting acquainted with the past generations, that is, what the history discusses and is raised with various motives, lay the groundwork for the realization of numerous levels of historical knowledge. This notion is also defined as historical consciousness which constitutes a necessary element in a man’s life for his move towards the future. Not only such a historical knowledge cannot be acquired through using whatever epistemological means and approaches to the past, but also there must exist certain conditions in order to reach a suitable result. This discourse is using architecture’s position as a valuable certificate and epistemological means in history as a basis to raise such a question: How and under what circumstances could the mankind basically reach such a level of historical knowledge (historical consciousness) when faced with architecture’s position as a historical argument (document)? The author will try to answer this question by contemplating about the general methods of acquiring historical knowledge and through rational reasoning. The author hopes his work will be accepted
