Evaluation of Health Index in Under One- year- old Children in Boyerahmad Township

In oder to plan, execute and evaluate any health program, people who are involved in health affairs need to have access to proper information about the existing health situation in their area. One of tools which has been used to evaluate and determine the health situation is health index. The aim of this study was to evaluate the health index in Boyerahmad township in under one-year- old children. The health index of this age group approximately shows the health situation of the community, since it shows the health situation of mothers, family planning (birth control), environmental health, nutritional status and death rate. The samples included 342 under one-year- old children in urban and 604 in rural areas. The major health indicators were evaluated in urban and rural areas as well as in the city. The findings of this study showed that family planning was not adequately promoted, the percent of illiteracy was high (especially among women), diarrhea and acute respiratory diseases were the commonest diseases in children and the age at time of marriage was low.
