An Analysis of the Cultural Identity of the Female Dormitory Students A comparative study of the public and private dorms in Tehran

مسئله هويّت از مضامين مهمي است كه در بعد فردي و بعد اجتماعي- فرهنگي مي‌تواند ابزار گويايي براي فهم شرايط جامعه باشد. يكي از منابع تغييرات هويتي تجربه محيط‌هاي جديد زندگي است. نمونه‌اي از آن در مورد دختران جواني مصداق داردكه براي ادامه تحصيل به شهري ديگر و به محيط زندگي خوابگاهي وارد مي‌شوند. پژوهش حاضر براي شناخت چگونگي هويت فرهنگي دختران ساكن خوابگاه، با رويكرد كيفي پديدارشناختي به انجام رسيده است. افراد نمونه از ميان دختران ساكن در خوابگاه هاي شهر تهران به شيوه تعيين پيشيني ساختار نمونه و با لحاظ كردن دو عامل نوع خوابگاه و ميزان پايبندي ديني، كه در مطالعات اوليه تاثير آنها بر موضوع مطالعه تاييد شد انتخاب شدند. هويّت فرهنگي را در ابعاد خانوادگي، ديني، جنسيتي و حوابگاهي مورد مطالعه قرار داده ايم. بر اساس يافته ها در خوابگاه هاي دولتي، دختران مذهبي از نظر هويت فرهنگي با انسجام هويتي بيشتر و چالش هاي هويتي كمتري مواجه بودند و دختران غيرمذهبي داراي هويت خانوادگي كمرنگ تر وهويت خوابگاهي ضعيف تر بوده، گرايش بيشتري به هويت جنسيتي مدرن داشته و درمجموع داراي انسجام هويتي كمتري بودند. در خوابگاه هاي خصوصي، دختران مذهبي احساس تعلق پاييني به خوابگاه داشتند و دختران غيرمذهبي كه غالبا داراي تعلقات خانوادگي نسبتا بالا و هويت خانوادگي قوي بودند افراد خوابگاه را قابل اعتماد و معاشرت نمي دانستند. اين افراد رويكرد نقادانه به منابع سنتي هويت يابي پيدا كرده و سعي داشتند هويتي وراي ارزش هاي مسلط در جامعه ارائه دهندكه به ارزش هاي مدرنيته غربي نزديك تر بود

Identity is an important issue that can represent the existing situation of a society in both social and cultural aspects. One source of the identity changes, especially in its cultural aspect, is the experience of living in new environments. This is valid for the young girls who enter the metropolis of Tehran and the dormitories to continue their educations. This study is conducted to examine the cultural identity of the girl living in dormitories with a phenomenological approach. The studied girls were chosen from the female residents of dormitories in Tehran city using theoretical sampling method (determining sample structure in advance) and by considering two factors: the dormitory type and the level of religiosity, elements which their impact on the subject matter of the study was confirmed in earlier studies. We studied the cultural Identity through its familial, religious, gender and dorm-related components.Had more coherent identities and faced fewer identity challenges,while the non-religious girls had stronger familial identities. and felt that they belong less to the dorm. They were more inclined to associate with modern gender identities. and in general possessed less coherent identities.The religious girls showed weaker sense of belonging to their dorms. The non-religious girls, most of whom had more powerful familial identities, considered their dorm co-residents unreliable and unsuitable persons to associate with. These girls had a critical approach to the traditional sources of identity and were trying to develop an identity beyond the dominant values-an identity which was closer to the prevalent values of western modernity.
