زبان همواره به عنوان پديده اي مهم در حوزه علوم انساني مطرح بوده و خود بخشي از تحقيقات علوم اجتماعي و انساني مانند جامعه شناسي، انسان شناسي، زبان شناسي، تاريخ و باستان شناسي قرار گرفته است. تحقيقاتي در مورد ريشه شناسي و چگونگي ظهور كلمه «تاريخ» در منابع و متون تاريخي آسياي غربي و يونان انجام گرفته است. از آن جائي كه كلمه آركيولوژي يوناني با كلمه تاريخ شباهت ساختاري دارد، موجب ايجاد فرضيه هايي در اين زمينه شده است. برخي ريشه اين كلمات را در زبان هاي سامي و برخي ديگر در زبان هاي ايراني و يوناني بيان كرده اند، ولي همه محققين در مورد منشاء اصلي آنها ابراز ترديد كرده اند. اين تحقيق با تكيه بر بستر تاريخي واژه تاريخ به خصوص در جوامع سومر و عيلام، منشاء اين واژه را در شهر اوروك و حوادث اجتماعي- سياسي آن جستجو كرده و آن را با ارخ يادشده در تورات مطابقت داده است. براساس يافته هاي تحقيق، نه تنها واژه يادشده بلكه كليت و شاكله ميراث تمدني سومر و عيلام در جوامع ايراني از طريق هخامنشيان، در جوامع عرب زبان از طريق اكدها، و در جوامع يوناني از طريق اسكندر و سلوكيان حفاظت شده و تا به امروز دوام آورده است.

So many researches has been conducted about the word ‘Tarikh’ (History) which consist the etymology and the way of showing up of this term in the cultural-scientific literature of Islam world. There is a large variety of views about the roots and concepts of the history word. Some researchers believe that this word belongs to the Semitic languages and some other express that it belongs to Iranian and Greek languages, but most of the researchers are suspicious about its origin. based on the archaeological data the root of this word belongs to ancient erech (A city of urban revoloution). Akkadians barrowed rhis word from Sumerians and introduced it to the world. The Civilization heritage of Sumer and Elam has been protected by the Achaemenid civilization and we have heired it today.
