مذهب، معنويت، سلامت و پزشكي ريشه هاي مشتركي در چهارچوب مفهومي رابطه ميان انسانها، طبيعت و خدا دارند. از ديرباز، علاقه فوق العاده اي به درك تعامل مذهب، معنويت، سلامت و پزشكي وجود داشته است. عليرغم برخي از محدوديت هاي روش شناختي، بسياري از مطالعات تجربي منتشر شده نشان مي دهد كه مشاركت مذهبي با پيامدهاي بهتر در سلامت جسمي و رواني همراه است. به هنگام رويارويي با بيماري، ناتواني و مرگ بسياري از بيماران خواهان آن هستند كه پزشكان و درمانگران، نيازهاي عاطفي و معنوي آنان را نيز مورد ملاحظه قرار داده و آنها را برآورده سازند. علاقه و توجه جديد به تعامل ميان مذهب و معنويت با سلامت و پزشكي تلويحات قابل ملاحظه اي براي جامعه ايراني دارد. مذهب و معنويت در جامعه ايراني و بستر فرهنگي جامعه ما از ويژگي هاي متمايزي برخوردار است و نقش مهمي در زندگي اكثريت ايرانيان ايفا مي كند و بنابراين، پزشكان و درمانگران ايراني بايد موضوعات مذهبي را مورد مداقه قرار داده و نيازهاي معنوي بيمارانشان را برآورده نمايند. تلفيق مذهب و معنويت در سلامت و پزشكي بسيار فراتر از موضوع به كار بستن پزشكي به صورت اخلاقي تر و ترحم آميزتر است. تلفيق مذهب در پزشكي فرصت هاي جديدي براي آموختن بيشتر درباره ساير نظام هاي سنتي پزشكي و درك عميق تر و تعامل مشاركتي ميان نظام هاي مختلف پزشكي فراهم مي آورد. افزون بر اين، پزشكان مي توانند مذهب و معنويت را در زندگي حرفه اي خودشان نيز مهم و ارضاكننده بيابند.

Religion, spirituality, health and medicine have a common root in the framework of the relationship among humans, Nature and God. There has always been considerable interest in understanding the interaction between religion, spirituality, health and medicine. In spite of some methodological limitations, many published experimental studies indicate that religious involvement results in better physical and psychological health. Facing the disease and inability, a significant number of patients demand that physicians and healers pay attention to their current and spirituality needs. The recent interest in the interaction between religion and spirituality with health and medicine has considerable implications for Iranian society. Religion and spirituality have distinguishing features in the Iranian people, so Iranian physicians should pay attention to religious issues and satisfy their patients’ spiritual needs. Integration of religion and spirituality in health and medicine goes beyond making medicine more ethical and compassionately, which provides new opportunities for learning more about other traditional medical systems and gaining a more in-depth understanding regarding the collaborative interaction between different medical systems. Furthermore, physicians can find religion and spirituality essential and rewarding in their professional activities.
