Method, theory and their relationship: The evolution of the concept of method and theory based on two quantitative and qualitative perspectives

اين مقاله به بررسي دو مفهوم كليدي روش و نظريه در پژوهش هاي تجربي مي پردازد. مقاله با قرار دادن اين دو مفهوم در بستر روش شناسي پژوهشي، معاني و رويكرد هاي متفاوت به آنها را از دو منظر روش شناسي كمي و كيفي مورد بررسي قرار مي دهد. بدين منظور ابتدا ويژگي ها و ابعاد روش شناسي هاي كمي و كيفي در پژوهش هاي تجربي تشريح مي شوند و سپس، پس از بررسي تطبيقي ميان اين دو و ذكر نقاط تشابه و تفاوت آن ها، فرايند پژوهش در هر يك از اين دو رويكرد مد نظر قرار مي گيرد. در ادامه مقاله ماهيت نظريه، به مثابه جزء مكمل روش در پژوهش هاي تجربي، از منظر دو ديدگاه كمي و كيفي و تركيب آن ها مورد تجزيه و تحليل قرار مي گيرد. در نهايت مقاله با استفاده از «گونه شناسي نظريه ها» و توسل به مفهوم «دور هرمنوتيكي» ديدگاه خود را در مورد نسبت ميان روش و نظريه در پژوهش هاي تجربي بيان مي نمايد و به تبيين نقش «چارچوب هاي نظري» در طرح اين نوع از پژوهش ها مي پردازد.

The present paper aims to study the concept of method and theory in empirical research. Considering the context of research methodology, the paper identifies different meanings and approaches to these two concepts from both quantitative and qualitative perspectives. First, the properties and dimensions of quantitative and qualitative methodologies in empirical research design are described. Then, the research process in each of these two approaches is considered after a comparative analysis between the two by considering the similarity and difference aspects. Accordingly, the nature of the theory as an integral part of the method in empirical research is analyzed based on these two perspectives, along with their integration. Finally, by using the concept of “typology of theories” and the concept of “hermeneutic cycle”, the present study tries to represent the relationship between method and theory in empirical research and explains the role of “theoretical framework” in these kinds of research designs
