توسعه اسلام ايدئولوژيك كه نقش مهمي در بسيج توده‌ها و سيطره اسلام سياسي بر اسلام سنتي در ايران داشته است و پيامدهاي سياسي و فرهنگي آن را مي‌توان در سال‌هاي پس از انقلاب اسلامي هم مشاهده كرد از سوي برخي از روشنفكران معاصر مورد نقد قرار گرفته است. روش مورداستفاده در اين بررسي نيز روش اسنادي تحليلي است. يافته‌هاي پژوهش حاكي از آن است كه داريوش شايگان يكي از مهم‌ترين روشنفكران ايراني منتقد اسلام ايدئولوژيك است. وي اين فرايند را ايدئولوژي شدن سنت تلقي كرده و معتقد است كه سنت ايدئولوژي شده نسبت خود را با معنويت شرقي از دست داده است و از طريق بازتوليد سنت در يك قالب مدرن منطق دروني مدرنيته بدون آگاهي به آن را پذيرفته است.سنت ايدئولوژيك نمي‌تواند امكاني براي توليد معنويت فراهم كند و صرفاً كاركرد سياسي براي رقابت با ايدئولوژي‌هاي مدرن خواهد داشت. وي ايدئولوژي را آگاهي كاذب مي‌داند و معتقد است كه تبديل دين به ايدئولوژي يك واكنش سلبي نسبت به روند فروپاشي سنت‌هاي شرقي در مواجهه با هجوم عقلانيت عرفي و اسطوره‌ستيز مدرنيته است كه در نهايت سنت را به يك ابزار سياسي براي ازخودبيگانگي تاريخي تبديل كرده و ظرفيت‌هاي معنوي آن را فداي اساطير عرفي شده سياسي دنياي مدرن مي‌كند. تبديل دين به ايدئولوژي به اعتقاد شايگان ناشي از فروپاشي مفاهيم عميق معنوي اديان در عصر جديد است.

He sees ideology as false consciousness as false consciousness an‎d believes that religion becomes ideology negative reaction to the collapse of the Eastern traditions in the face of the onslaught of secular rationality and modernity Myth busting. That the tradition has turned into a political tool for historical alienation an‎d spiritual capacities for the sake of political mythology of the modern world is customary. Shayeganbelieves,Transform religion into ideology caused the collapse of the deep meanings of religions in the modern age.
